Terms of Use

These terms govern this website, the hosted Playground, and the hosted API. The Crysalt software itself — when you download and run it — is governed separately by the Crysalt Software Licence Agreement.

Last updated 24 August 2026

Crysalt produces estimates, not answers. Outputs are thermodynamic predictions with known limitations and bounded parameter coverage. They may be inaccurate or incomplete, they depend entirely on the inputs you provide, and you are solely responsible for independently verifying every result before relying on it. Crysalt is not a substitute for professional engineering judgement and must not be used as the sole basis for any safety-critical, operational, financial, environmental, or design decision.

1. What Crysalt is

Crysalt is a geochemical modelling research project maintained by an individual, Duarte Jorge Alves de Carvalho e Silva (the “Maintainer”). It is not a company and does not offer professional, engineering, or advisory services. Using this site, the Playground, or the API does not create any advisory, fiduciary, or professional relationship between you and the Maintainer, and the Maintainer assumes no duty of care to you or to any third party in respect of the site or its outputs.

By using this website, the Playground, or the API, you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use them.

2. Scientific and engineering disclaimer

The engine computes estimates and predictions of mineral-scale behaviour using thermodynamic models. Those models carry documented limitations, and the underlying parameter sets cover a bounded range of temperature, pressure, composition, and ionic strength. Results outside that range, or derived from incomplete or erroneous input analyses, may be substantially wrong.

The methodology and scope pages state what the engine models and what it does not. Read them before interpreting any result. A result marked not converged is unreliable and must not be used.

You must not represent any output to a third party as warranted, certified, or guaranteed by the Maintainer.

3. The hosted Playground and API

The Playground is a demonstration. It sends the composition and conditions you enter to the hosted Crysalt API to compute a result. Do not submit confidential, commercially sensitive, or personal data to the hosted Playground or API. If your analyses are sensitive, run the engine locally instead — that is what it is designed for, and nothing then leaves your own environment.

The hosted services are provided on a best-effort basis with no availability commitment. They are rate-limited, and may be changed, suspended, or withdrawn at any time without notice. You must not attempt to circumvent rate limits, disrupt the service, or use it to build a competing or derivative service — see §4 of the Licence for the full restrictions.

4. No warranty

THIS WEBSITE, THE PLAYGROUND, THE API, AND ALL OUTPUTS ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE”, WITH ALL FAULTS AND WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Maintainer disclaims all warranties, express, implied, statutory, or otherwise, including any implied warranties of merchantability, satisfactory quality, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement, and any warranty that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure.

5. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Maintainer will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, production, data, goodwill, or business, or for business interruption or damage to equipment or property, arising out of or relating to this website, the Playground, the API, or any output, under any theory of liability (including contract, tort/negligence, or otherwise), even if advised of the possibility of such damages.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Maintainer’s total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to this website, the Playground, the API, or any output will not exceed the greater of (a) the total fees you have paid (which, for these services, is £0) and (b) £100.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law — for example, liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation. Nothing here excludes or limits any right or remedy that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law, including, where and to the extent you deal as a consumer, your statutory rights. These services are intended for professional and business use and are not directed at consumers.

6. Indemnity

To the maximum extent permitted by law, you will indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the Maintainer from and against any third-party claims, demands, liabilities, losses, damages, and reasonable costs (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or relating to: (a) your use of this website, the Playground, the API, or any output; (b) any decision, product, service, advice, or representation you make or provide based on them; or (c) your breach of these terms or of applicable law.

7. Privacy

There are no accounts, no sign-up, no contact forms, no mailing list, and no analytics or advertising trackers on this site. A single cookie stores your light/dark theme preference, and your acknowledgement of these terms is kept in your browser’s local storage — neither identifies you, and the acknowledgement is never transmitted.

Compositions you enter in the Playground are transmitted to the hosted API to compute a result. Do not enter data you would not want to leave your machine — see §3.

If you email the address below, that email is processed only to reply to you.

8. Intellectual property

As between you and the Maintainer, Crysalt, its source, its documentation, and this website are the property of the Maintainer. All commercial, redistribution, hosting, and OEM rights are reserved. See the Licence for what you may and may not do with the software itself, and the third-party notices for components governed by their own licences.

9. Relationship to the Licence

The Crysalt Software Licence Agreement governs the Software when you download and run it. These terms govern the hosted services — this website, the Playground, and the API. Where both could apply to your use of the hosted services and they conflict, these terms prevail for that use; the Licence continues to govern the Software itself.

10. Assignment

You may not assign or transfer your rights under these terms. The Maintainer may freely assign these terms and all rights in Crysalt and the hosted services, including to a successor entity or company, and these terms bind permitted successors and assigns.

11. General

If any provision is held unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect, and the unenforceable provision will be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable while preserving its intent. A failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver of it. Headings are for convenience only.

12. Governing law

These terms, and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with them or their subject matter or formation (including non-contractual disputes or claims), are governed by English law, and the parties submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.

13. Changes and contact

These terms may be updated; the date above records the current version. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms.
